If you are looking for somewhere quiet and relaxing, with beautiful views yet only 30 minutes from picturesque villages and activities for the children, look no further than Le Bousquet.
My wife, 3 teenage boys and I have just returned from the most magical 2 weeks at Karen and Steve’s farmhouse.
For my wife and I the outstanding features of this beautiful farmhouse have to be the quiet location with stunning views, and the pool. The boys of course loved the pool but also the cool downstairs lounge and games room.
Many an hour was spent sitting on the deck with an early morning coffee or a glass of wine looking out over the rolling hillsides or relaxing on the garden furniture in the shade of the deck with a book and an early evening drink soaking up the view – just so peaceful.
We all agree the pool is one of the best we have visited. It is a real luxury that the pool heated and with underwater lights that come on at dusk, there were many nights when come 10pm we were still splashing around having family fun or just floating around looking at the amazing stars.
The weather was glorious over the fortnight we were there so the downstairs lounge and games room gave a cool space for some rest bite from the afternoon heat. The boys loved the combination football, pool and air hockey table, which brought out the competitive side in all of us!
The farmhouse was lovely and clean, well-furnished and the beds very comfortable. Karen has equipped Le Bousquet like a home from home. Being a family of 5 we tend to eat in a lot and the kitchen had all the large pans and every utensil we needed. Having 2 huge fridges was a real luxury as one could be constantly stocked with cold drinks! I was particularly taken with the thought that Karen has put into the detail of what she’s provided at the farmhouse, such as, pool towels for everyone, enough dishwasher tablets for the stay, DVDs and games for the kids, and most importantly numerous ice-trays so we never ran out of ice – assuming the boys remembered to make it!
Something else Karen has put a lot of thought into is her guide to the local area with information ranging from where the most stunning views are, to local market days and things to do with the kids. We didn’t want to drive too far but within a 30 minute radius there were numerous places to visit and we explored some beautiful villages and had some truly delicious lunches out (Le Prieure in Carennac is a must). For the kids a few hours canoeing down the Dordogne was a great adventure, there is a waterpark close-by and who doesn’t love a ride in the steam train at Martel.
I really can’t recommend Le Bousquet highly enough and I suppose the greatest plaudit we can give is to say we loved the whole experience so much we have already booked again for next year – we can’t wait to return!
